Biography

Minister Chadrick “Chad’ Paul Betts Sr., Dalton, GA.

Beloved Son, Brother, Father, Uncle, and friend to many.

Minister Chadrick “Chad” Paul Betts Sr., age 55, gained his wings on January 15, 2021, in Dalton, GA. Born on March 03, 1965, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Elder Margarette P. Wicker (New Orleans, LA.) and Mr. David Betts (Janice Betts) (New Orleans, LA). 

Chad was baptized at an early age at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church (New Orleans, LA) He attended Joseph S.Clark High School where he excelled academically as well as on the football field. His prowess on the football field as a Left Tackle led to a full Athletic Scholarship to Clark 

College (Clark Atlanta University) to play for the Panthers. While attending Clark College he was scouted by the NFL as a Left Tackle. He turned down this opportunity to instead focus on his academics and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in1988. While attending college Chad, “Brother Betts'' was initiated into the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Psi Chapter in the fall of 1987.

Chad also served as a member of the Armed Forces in the U.S. Marine Reserves during his college years 1984-1988, where he earned a Rifle Marksmanship Badge and was assigned as a Postal Clerk. He was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Marine Reserves in 1988. Early in his career, Chad worked as a biological scientist and then later transitioned into a Pharmaceutical IT Consultant where he traveled the country providing training to various pharmacy personnel.

Giving back to the community was important to Chad; he volunteered as a football coach for his son’s Pee Wee Football League, for many years he participated in the Angel Food Ministries food distribution program at Holy Fellowship COGIC. Chad “Brother Betts” was also a charter member of the Phi Beta Sigma Sigma Chapter which celebrated its 25th anniversary on January 21st. Brother Betts was very engaged with the chapter’s partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs,scholarship initiatives for high school seniors in the metropolitan Atlanta area, specifically within the Sigma Beta Club.

Chad was a member of Holy Fellowship Church of God in Christ (Snellville, GA) under the leadership of Bishop J. Michael Paden Sr., for over 20 years, where he served as an Armor Bearer, Deacon(2007), Minister (2012), and jurisdictional secretary (2014). He was also a member of Agape Fellowship Christian Center (Conyers, GA) under the leadership of Pastor Curl Oral Hazell.

At the time of his passing, Chad was a member of the Temple of Faith Deliverance Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Dr. Rozario Slack (Chattanooga, TN). Under the guidance of Dr. Slack, he graduated from the Alternative Seminary Program/ITC (Chattanooga, TN) earning a Certificate in Theology(2019).

Chad is survived by his former wife, Tesa Edenfield, and their son Chadrick Paul Betts Jr., mother Elder Margarette P. Wicker (New Orleans, LA); father Mr. David Betts (Janice Betts)(New Orleans, LA); brothers David K. Betts(Leslie Betts)(Queens, NY), James S. Betts, (Barbara A Bradley-Betts)(Kenner, LA) and a host of nieces and nephews. Special friend Ms.Tina Bullock and their dog Apollo.
